Where do you representatives stand on SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and Protect IP Act (PIPA)? Pro publica has made it easy to check using a database they are compiling on where US House and Senate members stand on this dangerous legislation. Check the positions of your representatives here. You may be surprised, I was. Why are these bills so dangerous you ask? Well, they give rightsholders, ISPs, and the government the ability to shut down websites accused of infringement by blocking their DNS or shutting down their revenue stream, all without due process of law. Legal scholars predict that this legislation will do little to prevent real piracy at the expense of the unprecedented risk it poses to free speech.
