PLG/SAA Cataloging Pizza Party at ESFL

St. Kate’s PLG and SAA co-hosted a successful evening of spring break fun at the East Side Freedom Library with archive planning, cataloging, and pizza! Truly, a librarians-gone-wild event.

Representing St. Kate’s MLIS were 16 students and 2 faculty. Present also were several members from the ESFL community. We volleyed about ideas for preserving Hmong Archives items as well as making them accessible via finding aids or the Evergreen ILS (which Dr. Lesniaski’s Library Systems course is building) or both.

By the time our crazy night ended we gained a greater sense of what the ongoing needs are at ESFL and how PLG and SAA might support their work. Be on the lookout for developments. We were also able to get to know one another better. Around eight volunteer catalogers, guided by two experts and one hyper enthusiast, cataloged 74 titles. We also finished five boxes of pizza and a bottle of San Pellegrino sparkling water.

If you feel like you missed out, you did. But don’t worry. A similar event should come about soon. There are several thousand titles left that need to be cataloged.

2015 MN AIDS Walk

After a good experience the past two years, PLG is participating in the MN AIDS Walk again!  The walk is a 6-mile walk, starting and ending in Minnehaha park, a whole lot of fun, and for a great cause!

To join the St. Kate’s MLIS MN AIDS Walk Team,

If you can’t join us but would be interested in donating, visit the St. Kate MLIS Team page.

Good things to know:

  • Registration is free, and you’re not required to raise a certain amount of money.  You set your own fundraising goal.
  • There is free public transit to Minnehaha Park for the walk that Sunday (and carpooling is also always an option!).
  • Prizes available!  There are fundraising incentives for the walk.
  • MN AIDS Project does a lot of really good things.  Read up on it on their site.
